Before & after

Drag to compare.

Two clean, usable levels in place of a tired patio, with proper steps between them and the beds kept either side.

The job

How we built it.

  1. 01

    Clear out

We lifted the old patio slabs and broke out the edges of the raised terrace, then dug the lower level down and put membrane down to stop weeds coming through.

  2. 02

    Steps and edging

A wide flight of red brick steps was built between the two levels, and brick edging was laid round the lower patio before the sub-base went in.

  3. 03

    Paving

Both levels were laid in grey sandstone, with granite setts along the edge by the house and the manhole cover recessed so it sits flush with the paving.
